Yoga — Using breath, posture, and movement, there is an opportunity to explore our bodies and minds using that deeper breath as a guide. Practice in this environment is full of playfulness, and even laughter, but it also affords a time for quiet inner reflection.

HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training involving circuits and elements of Crossfit. See what's on the HIIT list every Friday.

Kettlebell Fitness — A high intensity aerobic workout using kettlebells to build strength and endurance.

Bootcamp  Built for all levels. Improve cardiovascular endurance and muscle endurance.

Pilates  The art of controlled movement. Improve flexibility, build strength, and develop control and endurance in the entire body.

Dance Remix  A mixture of barre, zumba-like dancing, and even kickboxing. (Re)Mix it up on Tuesdays!

Total Body Strength — 60 minutes of high intensity interval training and lean muscle development for a toned body.

Butts and Guts — Tone your glutes and core in tabata styled workouts every Wednesday.

Run Club - The club that's not actually a club! In anticipation of the 3rd annual Detroit Decades Dash in September, we'll be running (or working our way up to) the 5k route. Join us in the lobby at 6:30pm on Thursdays to get a good run in.

    Meet our instructors

Susan McPhersonSusan McPherson – Kettlebell Fitness My original reason for getting into fitness and health promotion was due to adolescent obesity; the total percentage of adolescents who are overweight and obese has increased substantially. With changes occurring in society, children, adolescents, and adults have become extremely sedentary; the introduction and growth of technology has been a gift and a curse. With my observations, I decided to pursue a career in health and fitness. I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. I teach a few fitness classes and hope to expand. When I'm not at the gym, I enjoy spending time doing other recreational physical activities, such as biking and bowling; I also love to travel.

Matt ChesleyMatt Chesley – HIIT I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer specializing in Fitness Nutrition, as well as the founder of the Detroit Mercy Biggest Loser. From January 2013 to June 2015, I lost 70 pounds and kept it off. I love teaching others about fitness and introducing new exercises to break the monotony of exercising the same way every week. I sing and play guitar and have played Hard Rock Cafe Detroit, St. Andrew's Hall and the Pike Room at The Crofoot. I have shared the stage with Everclear, Fall Out Boy and Chiodos. I am a graduate of Central Michigan University, class of 2009. I have a daughter born in July 2014 and a son born August 2016.

Kaitlin LambertKaitlin Lambert – Pilates I am a junior in the 7-year-dental program. I have always had an interest in sports and staying active. I played softball and ran cross country in high school. I still enjoy running as well as mountain biking and snowboarding. I began coming to the fitness center and attending different fitness classes last year as a freshman. I started working at the fitness center at the beginning of my sophomore year and I am very excited that I get to teach a class this semester.

Crystal PayterCrystal Payter – Dance Remix/Total Body Strength I have a B.F.A in Dance and Associate’s in Fitness Leadership, and my M.S. in Exercise Science. I have worked as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor for six years. I have taught classes in Zumba, senior fitness, spinning, kickboxing, total body strength, barre and yoga. I work in cardiac rehab as an exercise physiologist for Henry Ford Health System and in my spare time I enjoy running 5Ks, 10Ks, obstacle races like Tough Mudder and the occasional half marathon. This year I am signed up for my first full marathon.

Jim StoutJim Stout – Yoga Jim joined Detroit Mercy in 1994 and also teaches at two yoga studios: Everyday Yoga in Royal Oak/Clawson, and Yoga Now in West Bloomfield. Jim is an avid runner and cyclist, having participated in marathons, long distance road cycling and mountain biking. Jim has the 200-hour certification as recognized by Yoga Alliance. He is also a certified spinning instructor.

Sam Sam Schlaud – Butts & Guts Sam is a junior from North Branch. A bio major and employee of University Recreation, Sam is dedicated to her own personal wellness as well as helping others. Join Sam every Wednesday for Butts & Guts.

BaberBarraka Baber – Bootcamp I've been working for the university for about 4 years. Undergrad degree in cybersecurity. All around awesome guy.
